Mental Health Association for Chinese Communities (MHACC) s a nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise awareness of mental health within the Chinese community through education, support, and advocacy to service the Chinese families and individuals affected by mental illness, and to help them develop meaningful and productive lives.
Tradition and language barrier have kept many ethnic Chinese mental patients and their families from successfully seeking help in a timely and effective manner. MHACC has routinely visited mental hospitals and clinics to offer help to patients and families in need. MHACC has served the communities with outstanding contribution which were repeatedly reported by local and overseas media such as World Journal, China Daily, Sing Tao US, US-China Press, Chinese Radio, VICE and KTSF television station. MHACC has held more than 100 educational workshops with lectures given by Chinese speaking psychiatrist and psychologists. MHACC also developed the first mental health Chinese website, Chinese informational brochures, online support groups and many more. MHACC’s volunteers have reached over 10,000 Chinese Americans each year. All of our services are available in both Mandarin and Cantonese and are dedicated to connecting families dealing with mental illness to the educational tools and possible treatments so they can live meaningful lives. We also want to educate the public that mental illness is something physical just like any other illness and can be treated.
We provide a free, bilingual warm line giving support to people in crisis. We've helped more than 600 families total and last year in 2018, we've successfully prevented 12 suicides in the San Francisco Bay Area that had roots in depression. Our work has been duly recognized many times over. We were given the 2016 NAMI National and 2017 NAMI California Multicultural Outreach Award. Assemblymember Kansen Chu awarded us the 2017 Community Hero award. Senator Bob Wieckowski awarded us the 2018 Local Hero award, highlighing our work in the underserved Chinese community. The latest recognition of our services came as recent as May 2019, when the California Legislature Assembly recognized MHACC as the nonprofit of the year. As recent as June this year, we are proud to be hosting the first Chinese American Mental Health Awareness Day in the USA. This history making event demonstrated high level of recognition from other community services providers and earned respect from the general public as well.
We have created a new and big family and together we are all going to live prosperous lives! We continue to work to make our community better!
We will be very grateful for your generous donation. All donations will be tax deductible.
